Briefly glancing back at Gunar’s history, he developed the popular action series LASKO——MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN for the German TV channel RTL and co-authored the pilot screenplay DEATHTRAIN, starring Arnold Vosloo, which originally successfully aired in Germany and has since been syndicated worldwide.
He polished several action scripts for the established German production company Action Concept and completed the screenplay of the mainstream movie project PLATTY’S RUN, a classic family feature film about a platypus on the run located in Australia.
He wrote the TV movie screenplay FULL HOUSE, a sarcastic comedy about a shifty real estate speculator (commissioned by German TV channel Pro Sieben) and wrote dialogues for the long-running daily soap FORBIDDEN LOVE.
Gunar’s own film project TORBERG’S WAR, a classical genre horror thriller, is currently in pre-production. It deals with a 98-year-old SS-war criminal in a remote nursing home in the snowy Carpathian Mountains in Romania who is confronted with his past crimes. Think THE SHINING in a Nazi nursing home.
The highly acclaimed FASCINATING INDIA 3D was authored by Gunar, as was the documentary road movie BREZELKÄFER DIARIES, depicting an adventurous journey along the Panamericana Highway to the southern tip of South America.
He wrote and directed the full-length SILVER SENSUAL SEXY and developed the series TREASURES OF THE WORLD——HERITAGE OF MANKIND which were produced by public German TV networks SWR and ZDF in cooperation with UNESCO. For this series, he scripted and directed films on Stonehenge, the City of Bath, Westminster, Warsaw and other places of note. In addition, he scripted feature-length documentaries about the Azores, Rio de Janeiro and the American Southwest.
He authored FIRST STEP——FROM EARTH TO THE MOON, a VR documentary celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first landing on the moon. For the German TV network ZDF, he wrote and directed the TV documentary series THE FIRING LINE.
Gunar has written, produced and directed a myriad of corporate films and marketing videos for various well-known corporations such as Berlin Adlershof (Germany’s leading science and technology park and the capital’s #1 location for business and media), German Telekom, Start Amadeus, the telephone company Berlikomm and many others. Moreover, he wrote several screenplays for Berlin Partner, the official marketing organization of the city of Berlin.
Gunar wrote and directed highly successful live presentations for automobile multinationals such as Renault and Honda and scripted business oriented theatre plays for reputed companies such as Deutsche Bahn and LBS Munich.
Moreover, he scripted and directed a highly acclaimed live radio show on the long-running famous German TV crime series TATORT for the Berlin radio network RBB.
As a writer, Gunar published a popular gourmet guide to the unique restaurants of Berlin and a travel guide to the German holiday island of Sylt. For the crime series TATORT, he wrote two dozen audio books and additionally directed a large part of their vocal recording.
At the University of Potsdam, Gunar taught classes in screenwriting. Prior to that, he was part of the TV department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Germany’s leading daily newspaper). In his position as editor, he scripted, produced and directed a variety of programs.
Gunar’s short movie THE APHRODISIAC OF NICOLAS FLAMEL received the Short Film Award from the Movie Theatre Owners of Germany. His screenplay THE PANDORA INCIDENT, an adventure film about the Spanish flu, set in Greenland, was funded by the German Federal Film Board.
Gunar began his professional career as an assistant director, dubbing director, location manager and stills photographer for TV series, thrillers and documentaries. In addition, he has written more than 1,000 film reviews for major German newspapers and radio networks.
